Policies, Procedures and Information Pack

This is THE PACK!  It covers all aspects of our childminding businesses whilst showcasing our professionalism, attention to detail, extremely high standards and our unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of our mindees!

It took a long time to create and I'm incredibly proud of it - I hope it saves you hours of work and a lot of stress as you edit it to suit your setting!  Mostly, I hope it reminds you how incredibly important your role is and how amazing you are for juggling so many different things everyday!

In January 2024, a childminder specfic EYFS Statutory Framework was released, and under Section 3.6, it states the following; 'Childminders must have and implement policies and procedures to keep children safe and meet EYFS requirements. They must be able to explain their policies and procedures to parents, carers, and others (for example Ofsted inspectors or the childminder agency with which they are registered).'

It makes a lot of sense to have them all written down, so childminders can effectively and consistently communicate their policies and procedures with parents, and any relevant professionals that may wish to see them!

Therefore, I set about upgrading my old policy pack in line with the new Statutory Framework, whilst organising it all into one editable Word document, as feedback showed this was preferred to many individual ones!  Once I started going through the Framework with a 'fine toothed comb' and pulled together my research, I soon realised that it would be more beneficial for childminders to have a complete pack that covers all aspects of our business and does all of this;

- showcases our professionalism

- explains how each child has  a tailor made curriculum

- reminds parents we are businesses with boundaries (opening times) and we do not care for poorly children etc.

- covers safeguarding matters across our entire businesses with well planned procedures

- explains how we handle tricky situations, like challenging behaviour and supporting toilet training

- covers assitants, pets, two year checks, ratios, shared settings, ratios to name but a few

- covers health, hygiene, first aid, oral health, dietary needs, allergens

- explains our day to day routines like taking children on outings

- explains our stance on images, recording, the internet and devices

- covers record keeping, confidentiality and retention procedures

- refers to important useful documents throughout

- holds your hand from the first page, with lovely notes from me to help you edit the pack for your setting, supporting you with knowledge and letting you know about free training in certain areas and little nuggets of wisdom that I've gathered over the last few years!

This pack contains 51 difference sections and it's written by me, an experienced childminder, who understands first hand what it's like to run a home from home childminding business and everything that entails!

For a full list of each of the 51 sections, please see the 8 images of the contents!

Please note this document is not ready to go -  you need to read and edit each section to make sure it’s pertinent to your setting.  To help with this, it is sent as a Word Document that you can save to your computer and when you open the file, you will see a lot of notes from me to help you along the way, with both the technical stuff and the content!  You can also change the front cover and logos if you wish, to make it even more personal for your business!

This pack is suitable for both Ofsted and agency registered childminders and those who are just starting out!  If you are with an agency, you can purchase this document for your own setting, but permission is not granted for an agency or any organisation to purchase it and distribute it to their members.

I found that the process of writing and editing this pack really helped me to get my head around everything.  I gained an understanding of everything I should be doing, how I want my business to operate and what this looks like on a daily basis.  I hope you have a similar experience whilst working through this pack and you feel more confident in yourself and reassured that you're doing a great job!  When you look at all the sections of the pack, you realise just how incredible childminders are and everything that we do each day, always keeping the safety and well-being of our mindees at the epicentre of all we do!
